The Look Out, Castlerock.

This project was for the demolition and reconstruction of our client’s holiday home that sat on the edge of Castlerock Strand and enjoyed uninterrupted elevated views of the beach and the Irish Sea.

The main living accommodation is arranged over two floors and orientated to take full advantage of the views. This is achieved through large expanses of floor to ceiling glazing within the northern elevation.    A structural steel frame was employed to support two ring beams at first floor level to carry the floors and roof of the upper lounge, gallery and master bedroom. This configuration allowed for the omission of the corner supports to the northern elevation and the installation of frameless glazing. Roof windows have been installed on the south facing roof pitch to flood the upper rooms with daylight.

Finishes reflected the traditional materials found in the village, slate roof covering, painted smooth rendered and coursed random rubble stonewalls that could combat the harsh marine environment.
