Village Hall, Portballintrae

Portballintrae Village Hall overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and the headlands of Antrim, Donegal, Scotland and beyond. The single storey building nestles gently into the sloping lands behind with the use of vernacular materials to soften the impact on the surrounding environment. The construction of this new village hall incorporates a meeting room, function hall, kitchen, playgroup, office and retail units.

The building is a good example of the use of innovative but well proven renewable technology, notably a green roof. The building incorporates a biomass boiler with meters for separate heating zones, solar panels, wind catchers and low energy lighting inside and out.
