Located on a spectacular site at Coleraine Marina on the River Bann – GM Design Associates in association with Reiach and Hall Architects were commissioned to design a new purpose built headquarters and administrative centre for Coleraine Borough Council., now known as Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council. The Civic functions accommodated include a New Council Chamber with Ancillary Accommodation for the Members, including Study Rooms and Consultation Rooms. The Offices accommodate the five Council Departments - Town Clerk and Chief Executive, Corporate Services, Leisure Services, Environmental Health and Technical Services.
The building was completed in 2000 and has since become the symbol and focus for Local Government in the area and is one of which the Council is extremely proud, winning a RIBA Award in 2001 and Civic Trust Award in 2002.
Judges Comment from RIBA Awards 2001:
"This new-build council headquarters was consistent and totally appropriate. The council chamber is a subtle exercise in the juxtaposition of two cubes, shifted one against the other, with the spaces in-between allowing daylight in, either at roof level or through hidden windows in the walls. The quiet, careful detailing is a delight".
