Beach Road

The site sits on the edge of Portballintrae Harbour and has uninterrupted views of the bay and glimpses of the Irish Sea. The house comprises of two distinct volumes, front and rear, which are linked by a transition space. The orientation of each block is defined by, and defines, its relationship to the street and garden respectively, and this relationship twists the plan form around an entrance and circulation core. Strong boundary enclosures clearly define and connect the public and private realms, connecting the house to its site. Internal and external finishes are necessarily simple and robust given the seafront location and are limited to a palette found within the village.
